Dr Joita Dey
Intellectual Property Manager
I work as an Intellectual Property (IP) Manager at UEA at the interface of academia, industry and the third sector. I support academic colleagues from the Faculties of Medicine and Sciences (Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry and Computing) in identifying valuable IP from their research, securing protection for the IP, and in developing and commercialising the IP outputs towards their impact creating goals. In this regard, I am also involved in setting up collaborations and licensing opportunities with industry, raising translational grants and supporting spinout companies.
I have worked in IP Management and Technology Transfer for several years now gaining extensive experience in managing innovation development projects and completing several licensing deals in the Bio and Physical sciences sectors. I have supported spinout companies as a Director and Board Observer from the early days of incorporation to the end of their lifecycle with exits and with strategic support of business development, fund raising, and with IP due diligence. On behalf of UEA, I have also served as an Investment Executive and a Director of the ICENI Seedcorn Fund and made investments in early stage technology companies.
I have an academic background in Genetics (BSc Hons) and Molecular Biology (PhD) and while working in IP management, I completed a Professional Certificate in International Intellectual Property Law and an Advanced Professional Diploma in Management.
