Morag has worked in health services research for over 30 years, predominantly in palliative and supportive care. Research interests include breathlessness in advanced disease, palliative care, informal carers, older people, and methodology – particularly the development and testing of interventions and mixed methods. She has collaborated and published with colleagues in Canada and Australia in the field of breathlessness in advanced disease and palliative care methodology.

She is Deputy Lead for the East of England NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Palliative and End of Life Care Theme and leads a UEA research programme on improving care and support for patients and carers living with advanced disease, including SNAP and Learning about Breathlessness:

  • SNAP (the Support Needs Approach for Patients) has developed an intervention to enable person-centred care for people with chronic or progressive conditions: https://thesnap.org.uk
  • Learning about Breathlessness has developed a web-based educational intervention for carers of patients with breathlessness in advanced malignant and non-malignant disease: https://supporting-breathlessness.org.uk

She also collaborated on, and now leads, work exploring how patients with lung cancer can be supported in sharing their diagnosis with family and friends (the Sharing Bad News programme) and leads a further programme to develop a novel new Carer Support Nurse role.
